Justice Young is re-elected as Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court
The justices of the Michigan Supreme Court have unanimously re-elected Justice Young as Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. The justices elect a chief justice every two years. Chief Justice Young was first elected as chief justice in 2011. This appears to be the first unanimous election of a chief justice since at least 2005.
Chief Justice Young pledged to pursue court reforms targeting public service. According to the Court’s press release, Chief Justice Young said, “Performance measurement has been used in the private sector for years, and it can be just as effective in the public sector. We look at factors that affect the public’s experience of the courts – access and fairness, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and others – and find ways to measure the courts’ performance on each. Those measurements in turn provide very valuable information about how well the courts are functioning and where they can improve.”
Starting this year, the Supreme Court Administrative Office will begin posting performance measures online.
